Prior to attending your first appointment, you will need to obtain a written referral from your GP. These GP referrals normally last for 12 months but can be endorsed “Indefinite” which means they do not have to be renewed each 12 months.
Dr Kimber’s practice focuses on providing ISTDP treatment. If the main reason you are wanting to see a psychiatrist is to get a diagnostic assessment or for medication advice you will need to see a different psychiatrist.
Your first appointment with Dr Michael Kimber will be a trial of therapy session. There are a number of goals for this trial session:
to get a better understanding of the underlying causes of your current problems so that future treatment can target these causes,
for you to experience Intensive Short Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP) so you can decide if you want more of this treatment,
and for Dr Kimber to observe how you respond to ISTDP so that he can better advise you of the appropriateness of this treatment for you.
